FAQ
Questions
Short answers from how the site actually works.
What is NYC Insider List?
NYC Insider List is a public list of things to do in New York, at nycinsiderlist.com. It shows concerts, comedy, Broadway, sports, museums, free events, and the other categories already on the site. Happy hours are a separate list. They are not mixed into the event lists.
What is free, and what does a trial or subscription unlock?
Events dated today through 7 days out stay public on the lists, with the venue and the outbound link. Events more than 7 days out are locked unless you are in a trial or subscribed. The lock is not only on the main events page. The same rule is on search results, venue lists, category lists, and the other event lists. A locked card is blurred, asks you to subscribe to unlock, and does not link out. A trial or an active subscription is full access. That status is computed. It is not a separate flag stored on the event.
How does Google Calendar work?
Paid checkout shares the public NYC category calendars into the Google account on the subscription. That share is a Google Calendar ACL grant, queued when Stripe reports checkout complete. There is no personal ICS feed, and there is no email-based calendar subscribe. You do not paste a feed link. The free trial unlocks events on the site. It does not grant the calendars. An unlocked event page can still download that one event as its own calendar file. That file is not a personal ICS feed.
How do saved events work?
Saves and preferences use the email on the nyc_session cookie. That cookie is set when you start a trial or come back with the same email. There is no separate login. With no session, hearts and preferences stay in this browser until a session exists, then they move onto that email.
How do I cancel or manage the subscription?
Subscribers cancel from the account page. The Cancel subscription button opens Stripe's billing portal. Canceling happens there, at the end of the period already paid, and access stays until then. When Stripe deletes the subscription, the site marks the account canceled and queues removal of the calendar share. A trial ends on its own. There is nothing to cancel on a trial. A free visit does not get that button.
Are happy hours part of the event list?
No. Happy hours are their own list. Searching events does not search that list.
